2007 Vietti Nebbiolo Perbacco (Piedmont)

2007 Vietti Nebbiolo Perbacco (Piedmont)

2007 Vietti Nebbiolo Perbacco (Piedmont) 21.99

Barolo from one of the masters in a great vintage for only $22! True it’s not labeled Barolo but this 100% Nebbiolo is in fact from 10 different Barolo vineyards and the creation of one of the greats, Luca Currado at Vietti Winery. Vietti’s very high standards and key vineyard holdings make this wine possible. Antonio Galloni says it “offers up generous fruit along with menthol, spices and hard candy, … Round, suave tannins add to the long and refined finish. This is a wonderful vintage for Perbacco.” And scores it 90+ points. It should drink well for 10 years. Grab 6 bottles while it’s still available.

2007 Banknote The Vault (Napa, California)

2007 Banknote The Vault

2007 Banknote The Vault (Reg: 31.99 - On Sale for limited time: 29.99)

The Vault is sourced from top sites in Napa Valley and is composed of Zinfandel, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. It features beautifully integrated aromas of plums with hints of mocha, mulling spices and cracked pepper that lead to flavors of black fruits with hints of chocolate and espresso ably supported by silky tannins. Its quite a mouthful! Just shy of 800 cases were produced so it won’t be available for long. Bottles are individually numbered and there are twelve different labels, each one featuring a different banknote from the 19th century. Tasted three times and scored consistently.

2007 I Greppi Greppicante (Bolgheri, Italy)

2007 I Greppi Greppicante (Bolgheri)

2007 I Greppi Greppicante (Bolgheri) On Sale: 19.99

Here’s a great Tuscan value and one of the top 100 wines of the year according to The Wine Spectator at a new low price for a limited time. For the month of July B-21 is offering the 2007 Greppicante for only 19.99 (a two dollar savings from our already low everyday price of 21.99). This Cabernet Sauvignon based blend is loaded with fruit complemented by toasty oak in a very polished and seamless style. It offers considerably value in the Super Tuscan category where that can be hard to come by.

2007 Rosenblum Zinfandel Rockpile Road (Dry Creek, California)

2007 Rosenblum Zinfandel Rockpile Road Vineyards (Dry Creek)

2007 Rosenblum Zinfandel Rockpile Road Vineyards (Dry Creek) $24.99

“Kinky, rich, ripe, sexy and luscious are just a few of the descriptors you can apply to Rosenblum’s Rockpile Road Vineyard Zinfandel. It borders on the sweet yet never crosses that boundry. It is decadent and curiously almost over the top. I have friends who don’t particularly like Zinfandel and yet they love Rosenblum Rockpile. The 2007 is classic and the best since the 2003. At a recent gathering it was the first bottle emptied. I suspect your experiences will be similar. It’s a great value.”

2006 Castello Monastero Chianti Classico (Tuscany, Italy)

2006 Castello Monastero Chianti Classico

2006 Castello Monastero Chianti Classico (Tuscany) $13.99 - May 2010 Special

“Castello di Monastero’s 2006 Chianti Classico is one of the most textbook classic Chiantis one could ask for. It is darkly colored and intensely flavored with much room left to develop.  It is an amazing value not to be missed. The Wine Spectator says ‘It shows Indian spices and ripe berries on the nose. Full-bodied, yet refined and very polished.’ You’ll want to have a case to enjoy over the next ten years. ”

2007 Petrognano by Selvapiana (Tuscany, Italy)

2007 Petrognano by Selvapiana (Tuscany) $19.99

2007 Petrognano by Selvapiana (Tuscany) $19.99

“A blend of Sangiovese (60%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Merlot (20%), Petrognano is vinified partly in steel and partly in wood and then aged for 18 months prior to release. It exhibits great elegance and purity as well as concentration and length. Pomino, a subsection of Rufina where Petrognano originates, is reknowned for top quality red varietals grown on its limestone hillsides. The 2007 Petrognano is an exceptional Tuscan red that overdelivers for the price.”

2006 Aia Vecchia Lagone (Tuscany, Italy)

2006 Aia Vecchia Lagone (15.99)

2006 Aia Vecchia Lagone (15.99)

Aia Vecchia’s 2006 Lagone is a great value in Bordeaux-styled Tuscan red. The grapes are sourced from the same vineyards as Aia Vecchia’s $40 flaghip red Sorugo (92WS) but sells for half the price. The very skilled winemaking team really hit their stride with the 2006 which received nice reviews from the Wine Advocate’s Antonio Galloni and the Wine Spectator who described it as “Full-bodied, with soft, velvety tannins and a long, rich finish…” I would add that there is nice acidity keeping the wine fresh and allowing it to drink well for several more years and this really does feel like a much more expensive wine.”

2007 Argiano NC Non Confunditur (Tuscany)

Argiano NC

2007 Argiano NC Non Confunditor (Tuscany) - 19.99

Argiano’s 2007 NC is a Tuscan blend that shows exciting power, with the inherent sweetness of the Merlot component acting as a bridge between the firm earthiness of the Sangiovese, the spicy blackcurrant of the Cabernet and the warm red fruit of the Syrah. The result is a generous, round red wine for early to mid-term drinking with aromas of currant and generous fruit flavors, which are versatile enough to develop more depth in the bottle. It is an excellent value and was chosen as one of the top 100 wines of the year by the Wine Spectator.” (90WS)

2006 Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva (Tuscany)

2006 Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva ($19.99 or $17.99 by the case)

2006 Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva ($19.99 or $17.99 by the case)

The Castello di Nipozzano, built in the year 1000 as a defensive fortress now houses the wine cellar, where the Frescobaldi estate reds are produced and aged. The estate lies in the heart of the small northern Chianti Rufina growing zone where the soil is rich in clay and limestone creating the ideal terroir for the production of great Chianti. The 2006 Nippozano features focused bright cherry aromas and flavors as well as excellent minerality and focus. This is top tier Chianti for a very reasonable price.

2005 Borra Fusion ($13.99 or $12.59 by the case!)

2005 Borra Fusion ($13.99 or $12.59 by the case!)

“Primarily Syrah with Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouchet and Zinfandel, Borra’s Fusion features powerful aromas of ripe fruits, including berries and plums, with delicate notes of vanilla.  Big and rich on the palate, the wine combines softer tannins with a long and luscious finish.  Ideal with roasted meats, wild game, or a variety of pizzas.”
